Category 3 Measures

Even greater savings on energy could be achieved through the following measures - with some capital investment. The payback period ranges from three to six years.

Lighting

• Replace T8 fluorescent lighting with T5 fluorescent lighting. (30-40% saving)
• Replace HID (High Intensity Discharge) high-bay lighting with high-output T5 fluorescent lighting. (about 40% saving)
• Retrofit fixed output lighting with dimmable lighting using digital electronic ballast and photocell. (over 30% saving)
• Install occupancy sensor control which automatically turns off the lighting when the room is empty. (over 20% saving)

Air Conditioning (AC)

• Adopt variable speed drives for air handling unit (fans) and water pumps to save energy at partial load. (over 30% saving)
• Install occupancy sensor control which automatically turns off the AC when the room is empty. (over 30% saving)
• Install "automatic tube cleaning systems" on water-cooled chillers for better efficiency. (over 10% saving)
• Apply anti-ultraviolet film to window glazing exposed to strong sunlight. (over 20% saving)
