The Charter
Policy
The senior management should formulate a clear policy on suitable room temperature to reduce energy consumption.
Plans and Procedures
Draw up clear guidelines and plans on energy saving to ensure that staff will adjust the air-conditioning setting to the most suitable temperature to avoid wastage of energy. In particular, the following points should be emphasised:
- Normally and where applicable, the ideal room temperature of air-conditioned space in summer months is 25.5 °C;
- Where provided, energy efficient ventilation equipment, like fans, could be used together with air-conditioners;
- To encourage staff to dress casual and smart in summer;
- Continual promotion to staff and customers of the importance of suitable room temperature in energy conservation, e.g. by providing thermometers at easily visible areas
Management and Implementation
Make sure that the plans are implemented smoothly. The room temperature should be monitored to ensure that the energy saving measures are actually carried out.
Review
Review the measures regularly to identify areas for improvement and possible ways to achieve further energy saving.
